Geography
Brazil is the largest country in South America and the fifth-largest globally. For some comparison, Brazil is bigger than the forty-eight conterminous states in the U.S. Brazil is known for its beautiful and impressive geographical sites such as the Amazon rainforest, Iguacu Falls, the Amazon River, many gorgeous beaches, and stunning mountain tops. Brazil shares borders with not only every South American country besides Chile and Ecuador but also the Atlantic Ocean. Since the country is so big, Brazil’s climate varies depending on the specific location. Savannas, wetlands, plateaus, and mountainous landscapes are all found within the country. Brazil has always been a hub for biodiversity whether it comes to the millions of species of plants and animals living there or the six terrestrial biomes and one marine biome throughout the country. However, it is most well-known for its tropical and subtropical regions and landscapes. Being the fifth most populated country in the world, Brazil makes up one-third of the Latin American population though most residents are located along the eastern coast. Brazil is split up into five Major Regions or Grandes Regiões in Portuguese, North, Northeast, Central-West, Southeast, and South. It is extremely important to protect the landscapes in Brazil especially given the effect climate change is having on nature. The amount of natural disasters related to the climate has increased by 460% since the 1990s in Brazil. Brazil is home to biodiversity and unique geographical features that need to be protected for future generations to enjoy.
